Anti-Microbial
Most of you, at some point in your life, needed an antibiotic. The main need of an antibiotic is to kill or inhibit the growth of bacteria. Antibiotics are needed because our body has a difficult time to kill bacteria with only the human's natural defense system. (Davey, 2000) Before the age of modern medicines, the only antibiotics used to kill bacteria came from plants or molds. (Forrest, 1982)
The biggest threat long term with antibiotics (otherwise known as anti-microbial) is the natural anti-microbial resistance that happens with bacteria. Over time as modern medicine produces new antibiotics, the bacteria strains they are presented to fight off become naturally resistant to the antibiotics. (Zoonoses, 2010) There are only so many antibiotics available and some humans are allergic to certain antibiotics, causing a smaller list of options when they get sick.
It would be valuable if there were any type of natural substances to assist with the termination of bacteria.
There was a study conducted in India to asses the antibacterial activity of the extracts from Moringa seeds (ethanol, methanol, acetone, chloroform and petroleum ether) against wound isolates of Multi Drug Resistant - Methicillin Resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MDR-MRSA). (Chambers, 2001)
MRSA is still considered as an emerging pathogen and public health threats result from the spread of hospital-acquired as well as community-acquired MRSA. (Chambers, 2001)
The results of the tests concluded the extracts of Moringa seeds (ethanol, methanol and acetone) showed promising results, especially from the Moringa oleifera extracts (10 to 17 mm zone). This is the first report that has shown seed extracts from Moringa oleifera have antibacterial activities against MDR-MRSA and isolates from a wound infection. (Dayrit et al., 1990).
This data shows an example of how powerful Moringa can be for your heath plan. You may not have bacteria you need to fight off right now, but the contents of Moringa and the power it has for fighting off such a strong bacteria is just one benefit of many Moringa has for you!
